The church under the tree
Meet Magali and Julian, pastors of the Inglesia Alcance Chontal, in Santa Maria Huamelula, on the southwest pacific coast of Mexico.
This video is from the first day we met them as we enjoyed being a part of one of their team meetings, worshipping and sharing God’s goodness. It was our second week in Mexico.
Magali’s testimony was…”we started a church under a tree! I loved how those words created a picture in my mind.
They the church started with the Samaritan’s Purse Christmas Child Shoebox event, followed by 12 weeks of discipleship, a graduation event and continued with children’s classes. The Chontal are an unreached people group and Magali’s people.
As I understand it, not many adults were interested in church or the gospel until last June when a 7.4 earthquake hit the southern coastal range of mountains. Many mountain villages and the village of Chontal were badly damaged or destroyed and the people were filled with terror.
Suddenly the children’s parents began to come to church and Julian and Magali were able to lead people to a saving relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
A missions organization partnered with a church in Asia and built an open air church and community area.
Magali and Julian both work full time and drive 1.5 hours one way each week to hold services in this small village. Phil was privileged to share a message and pray with many from the church.

New ministries in 2021
Pastor Julian serving donuts to the children at the La Crucecita Discipleship class. Magali made donuts and rice milk in her bakery. They feed the children at each class.
Now Magali and Julian and their team are starting a second church in La Crucecita (our community) through the Christmas Child event.
They invited us to come and share with the mamas during week #5 of the children’s discipleship classes. What a joy!
This time the church is starting in the alley behind Magali’s home.
We love these two who found Jesus through extreme difficulty in life and have suffered great personal loss due to their commitment to Christ. This has resulted in an obvious passion for souls and faith in the Savior and the Word of God.
