Our First Trip in Mexico

The first Sunday after arriving in Huatulco we were invited to join Pastor Wili and his wife Nahari and their team “Manos de Esperanza” on a trip to Pluma Hidalgo, a quaint and very old village in the mountains outside Huatulco. What a privilege to see the city with national Mexicans who have a heart for people to really know Jesus Christ as savior and to experience the love and peace  only He can give.

Pluma Hidalgo means “People of the Coffee” and is an original area of coffee plantations. Pluma rises rapidly in elevation, going from sea level in Huatulco to 4200 feet in just 41 minutes. Quite a ride for those who are susceptible to car sickness.

The switchback road is busy with taxis, vans, scooters, people walking and even Burros!

The purpose of the trip was to acquaint the ladies in the ministry, “Manos de Esperanza” with the ministry in Pluma, “Hilos de Amor” (Stitches of Love), a ministry of Frank and MaryLou Ticknor. They allowed me to photo copy their picture book at their store. You can look through it here, it’s fun to see the lady’s stories and their creations.

Manos de Esperanza – Hands of Hope

Inglesia Alcances Huatulco

Manos de Esperanza team with Davises

“Manos de Espranza” is a ministry of Inglesia Alcances Huatulco, begun in the summer of 2020 after the pandemic shut down the businesses in Huatulco and many families suffered loss of income.

Church leaders sought the Lord about how to help their community. A soup kitchen and food pantry helped meet the needs for food, however, with no “unemployment” or “stimulus packages” the people were desperate.

The answer was to teach women how to use sewing skills and create items to sell as well as learn biblical truths and experience the love of Jesus Christ as their savior.

The idea was loosely patterned after Hilos de Amor in Pluma Hidalgo. Click the button below to look at the booklet I put together on Manos de Esperanza.
