Our first stop in Mexico was Rosarito in Baja California, the home of our good friends and missionaries, Don and Sandy Godwin. Don and Sandy lived and ministered in Rosarito for over a decade so we had confidence in their opinion of living in Baja California.  We loved our visit with them, check out our experiences and how Rosarito fit into our “Perfect Checklist.”

Adventuresome as we seem and want to be, we are not the “throw on your backpack and jump into something unfamiliar” types.

We also wanted to find a Christian community in Mexico and a place we could use our ministry gifts.

God led Phil to a youtube channel, Retire in Mexico. The “stars” of the channel Cindy and her husband Fred, are Christians and had extremely detailed and valuable videos on retiring and living full time in Mexico. These folks have lived in Huatulco for almost five years and Cindy has lived in Mexico for more than 20 years.

We felt confident as we learned from their videos and even spoke with them over facetime, we could be brave and go to Huatulco, site unseen. More importantly we could see God’s hand all over this choice.

We began the necessary preparations, paying off all debt, downsizing to the bare minimums, saving money and doing the required paperwork and on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 we arrived in Huatulco International Airport to start our next adventure and explore our options in a beach town on the southwest pacific coast of Mexico; Bahias de Huatulco.
